Many fans of Mixed Martial Arts, particularly in Brazil see Glover Teixeira as the next big thing in the sport and see him as a force who will dominate the Light Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC for many years to come, much like what Anderson Silva did during his time as the UFC Middleweight champion.
And former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida is one who doesn’t differ from the opinion of his countrymen.
The big Brazilian brawler is all set to take on the challenge of Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28 back home in a few days’ time and it is being widely believed that a win against Bader would almost certainly guarantee him a shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. And according to Machida, there is not any fighter in the division who can overcome the threat posed by the young Brazilian.
Meanwhile, the current holder of the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship Jon Jones is in line to defend his title against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 and Machida believes even if he wins his match against the Swede, there is hardly any chance that even he will be able to overcome the talents of Teixeira.
Machida stated in a recent interview that he sees the young Brazilian as the next champion in the 205 lbs division and he doesn’t think there is any one fighter in the UFC, in any division, who is equipped with the talents it takes to overcome the threat posed by Teixeira.
He mentioned that he knows the youngster better than most fighters in the UFC because he trains with him regularly and even in a friendly spar, he is the absolute best there is at the moment and it would take a miracle to beat him.
